ARTISTIC

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

So GLieght cruised over to the office to meet up so we could roll to the show.

Got to the show an hour and half before it jumped off and there was a line of peeps, it made me feel like i was on Fairfax Ave in front of SUPREME.

So we said forget waiting in the 90 degree heat so we mashed across the street to the ASSAYER to grab something cold to drink and wait out the line.

An hour later we jumped back across the street to peep the line and as you can see the line did not go down, but went around the block. We were lucky enough to find Angine (MOSLEY TRIBES |OLIVER PEOPLES) in line holding down a spot.

This dude “Ghetto Darth Vader” was cruising around with all the other crazies and i had to get a photo with him. He also tried to sell me his mixed cd which i declined.

As we entered.

Shoes dont grow on trees.

This image is iconic to LA, this is a self portait of the Mr. Brainwash. Over the last year on my commute into the office i would see wheat paste posters and stencil graffiti of this and I always wondered who this was. Finally the search has ended.

Mr. Brainwash Show Los Angeles from Patrick Wright on Vimeo.

There was a room that was covered from floor to ceiling with random stuffed animals, GLeight Broke into it and jumped into the pile of stuffed animals. This chic followed his lead. Go LA Raiders!

Mr. Brainwash himself signing prints. Thank you sir for the visual stimulation we loved it.

All I have to say is that Reebok is trying way to hard to make their brand cool. It makes me wonder what designs didn’t make the cut.

Heads Up

These new military inspired bags from Porter has just been released in Japan. This collection is called “Green Eye”. The collection consists of several bags and pouches, all coming with a green camouflage pattern, originally created in the 1940’s. Dont sleep summer vacation is here and you can cop at the ZoZo shop.

OR…

You can opt for the totally wack LV x Takashi Murakami Monogramouflage. I love military inspired remakes but this one could have been better. Someone needs to read the Maharishi book DPM: Disruptive Pattern Material by Hardy Blechman. This is the most comprehensive history on camouflage.

The words of Shepard Fairy about MBW:

Mr. Brainwash is an enigma. I want to hug him one second and smack him the next. He is awesome, infuriating, almost impossible to define, but if an artist is defined by relentless, obsessive passion, then MBW is definitely an artist. Which kind of artist though? When I first met MBW he was a film maker. He started documenting me putting art up on the streets and in galleries back in ‘99. He has hundreds of hours of footage and often risked his neck climbing with a camera to very dangerous spots. MBW’s camera was ALWAYS on… Theoretically MBW is coming out with an OBEY documentary eventually. Somewhere along the way I introduced MBW to Banksy, which seemed to lead him to transition from just a voyeur to a participant, and he began making his own street art. MBW told me he used to paint and had actually sold his art to Michael Jackson years ago. Knowing this art background and his obsessive nature, it does not surprise me how quickly MBW rose to prominence with his street art, becoming one of the most “up” people in LA in a short amount of time. Not all of the work was magnificent, but it improved steadily, reflecting the maxim that practice yields results. Meanwhile, in addition to his street art, as flows logically, MBW was also making canvases and screen prints that could be shown in a gallery. In his usual style, MBW could not just do a small art show, he had to go completely over the top and put together one of the largest, most ambitious, non-museum shows I can think of (more detailed description below). Of course nothing can go smoothly with MBW and over the weekend he wrecked his car and fell off a billboard breaking his foot. A less insane person would have postponed their art show, but he instead postponed his foot surgery and is continuing work. With the ambition and commitment MBW has, I’m pretty sure he’ll pull the show off, but if he doesn’t, to paraphrase Malcolm Mclaren, a glorious failure is better than an underwhelming success. I will be playing records and a jazz band will perform, so it is going to be a good party.

John Wardle Architects

This house is located on the Southern Shores of Australia in Victoria. I know that we have not addressed buildings and structures on this blog, but when i saw this house i could picture myself in it. The simplicity and clean lines are what make this house spectacular, the floor to ceiling windows invite the outside in and really embrace the exterior environment. Here at Mosley Tribes we enjoy things that are simplistic and this house is indefinitely keeping it clean.

Let’s Get Lost

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Let’s Get Lost, is an American documentary film that was made in 1988 about the turbulent life and career of jazz trumpeter Chet Baker. This film was written and directed by Bruce Weber. British designer Paul Smith was inspired to produce a t-shirt to tribute the critically acclaimed documentary. The t-shirts are available now at select Paul Smith retailers.
