Neckface

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

Graffiti artist Neck Face opens his first-ever New York solo show tonight, and his timing (as in Halloween) couldn’t be more appropriate. After all, he has already tagged his bloodthirsty goth creatures—beloved by collectors like Beck—from New York to Tokyo, and the exhibit includes eerie metal masks, a toddler-sized pair of witch’s hands, and sculpted neon-yellow devils. And then there’s the show’s title and theme: Closed Casket, which is loosely based around the idea of Satan. “I’m inspired by the dark, the blackness of the night, the things you ain’t supposed to laugh at, the evil in the world today,” he says. But consider yourself warned: If you plan on going to tonight’s opening, costume is required.

A couple wednesdays ago, MOSLEY TRIBES hooked up with Grey One and british DJ Mark Ronson for a night of madness at Hollywood’s new “hot spot,” Opera/Crimson. Everyone stopped by for a taste including the Hundreds fam, Undefeated fam, Urb magazine fam, Hall of Fame fam, Oliver Peoples fam, Kendo fam and even the infamous Christina Aguilera. But she’s not worthy of a screen shot here. Thanks to everyone involved, it was night I wont ever forget!

Every wednesday night Echodelic Soundsystem puts on the best roots reggae night in all of Los Angeles. From the unique true jamaican artists they get to play, to the one-of-a-kind flyers, and orginal roots reggae, no one is doing it better in LA. Tonight they have managed to bring the classic duo of Papa Michigan & General Smiley all the way from Kingston, Jamaica. If you check out their myspace, you might be blown away by the caliber of artists these guys are flying in from Jamaica, not to mention the legit concert posters. Check it out sometime, and come nice up the dance in Echo Park.

With all the natural disaster and tragedy that has happened in the last five years it can be really easy for people to become disensitized by all the images. Especially in California, a state that has so far been geographically removed from these most recent major disasters. Now that mother nature is taking its toll on Southern California, causing over 500,000 people to evacuate their homes and nearly 640 square miles destroyed, us west coasters are getting an up close reminder of what true heroism and courage is. On behalf of Mosley Tribes we would just like to show our support to the many people who have lost their homes and are in danger of losing their homes. And most importantly for the 5,000 firefighters that have been working around the clock for 3 days trying to protect this beautiful state. We appreciate the hard work! Mind you, its 90 degrees outside today.

Clean Yo

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

The other day I was at The Social Trust talking with Paul about upcoming projects, when he showed me the latest cleaning kit by Jason Markk. I have been cleaning my shoes for years. When I first started I was using a toothbrush and spray bottle with diluted clothing stain remover. From the toothbrush I moved to old t-shirts and Windex. Who knows what all those harsh chemicals really do to the rubber and leather, but it cant be good. For all those sneaker heads that can’t keep their suede clean, here is a product for you. I have never seen suede come clean like this before, Jason Markk has found the correct balance of coconut and jojoba oils to create this environmentally friendly all natural soap compound. Enjoy

1941: Victor Hasselblad AB is commissioned to produce 342 large format reconnaissance cameras for the Royal Swedish Air Force.Recently I was down at the Oakley Photo Studios getting some product shots done, they have recently become friends of ours. I was amazed to see the new addition to the studio, they have a Hasselblad Camera with a digital backing linked to a G5 that shoots at 39 mega pixels, bananas. I asked Craig the photographer how much did the digital adapter cost? He said it was in the $30,000 dollar range, i was like WHAT??? So i guess you know now where all our product shots are going to be done at.
